Security guard Kelvin Collum told the News of the World the sick slayer turned Sarah Bush from a lusty, loving partner into a moody, agressive nightmare.
And terrified Kelvin recalled how mad axeman Marshall once threatened to murder him, too, in a jealous rage.
Marshall was jailed for life this week for savagely killing businessman Jeffrey Howe, chopping him up and spreading body parts around the country -
Vice girl Bush, 21, was also caged for helping dispose of the body. She was caught on CCTV with Marshall in their victim's car, which cops believe had his remains in the boot.
But her ex Kelvin, 25, (pictured below) insisted: "When I first started seeing her she was a fun girl - with a very healthy appetite for sex. I'd lost my mother and she was there for me. I was going through a difficult time but we started to get close and began dating.
"She liked to dress up and had a wardrobe full of Ann Summers stuff - lacy underwear and playful outfits. She liked to wear the nurse's uniform for me and I have to say sex with Sarah was great.
"She knew what she was doing and didn't have any inhibitions. Sarah had a tough upbringing and left school early but she had two children to support so she got a job answering phones at a north London escort agency."
Soon Bush swapped from manning the switchboard to selling her body. Kelvin recalled: "At first we had sex frequently then I became suspicious as she didn't want it as much. She said she was tired from work.
"I wondered how answering phones could be so exhausting. It was obvious there was more."
Then Kelvin noticed a sinister change in his lover. "It was about the time Stephen Marshall came into her life," he said.
"Sarah turned from a happy-go-lucky girl with a lust for life into a moody temperamental, aggressive nightmare.
"She became very confrontational, getting annoyed if people looked at her the wrong way. She frequently got into arguments and would snap at the smallest thing."
Bush was seduced by the badboy image of her mobster client Marshall. And quickly, in 2007, he became her lover rather than just a punter. Kelvin was dumped and said Bush fell under the total influence of man mountain Marshall.
"She'd do exactly what he said," recalled Kelvin, who continued to see Bush occasionally as a friend despite their split.
"He was very controlling and she seemed afraid of him. She would have to be home at a certain time and would then drop everything and just go."
In October, 2008, Bush called Kelvin and begged him to give her a lift to hospital without Marshall finding out.
Kelvin agreed but two days later received a menacing call from his rival. Still chilled by the thought, Kelvin recalled: "The first thing he said was, 'Did you take my girlfriend to hospital?' I admitted it but told him, 'I didn't ask about her personal life. I was just doing a friend a favour.'
"Then he threatened, 'It's not hard to find someone these days. I'll kill you!'
"I didn't have to ask if he was serious. I was scared. He warned me to stay away from Sarah. And I knew he meant it."
Kelvin realised just how serious Marshall, 38, was when the monster went on trial for the murder of Jeffery Howe, a pal who'd put him up at his flat in Southgate, north London
The stunned jury heard how Marshall used cleavers, knives and chainsaw to hack up bodies.
And this week Marshall admitted that as well as killing Howe he sliced up four more bodies for gangland paymasters.
Relieved that the killer is now behind bars, Kelvin shuddered as he talked about the case.
He said: "That could have been me. As a security guard I've been in some violent situations. But that threatening call from Marshall topped it all."
